Our journey across Scotland was a blur of ancient legends, cinematic vistas, and the kind of weather that tests your spirit. From our bases in Glencoe, the Isle of Skye, Inverness, and Edinburgh, we set out to find the magic hidden in the mist. We tracked legends by boat on Loch Ness, stumbled upon enchanting fairy rings in the glen, skulked through the shadows of Greyfriars Kirkyard, and paused for a quick pat on the head of the loyal Greyfriars Bobby.
The landscape often felt larger than life, especially as we stood before the towering peaks of the Three Sisters or followed the "Skyfall" road into Glen Etive to find the spot where Bond’s Aston Martin once stood. We even caught the steam of the Hogwarts Express as it puffed across the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct. To lean further into the "Outlander" spirit, we visited the ancient Clava Cairns, whose Bronze Age standing stones and burial chambers inspired the mystical Craigh na Dun.
Of course, the Highlands wouldn't be the Highlands without a challenge from the elements. We hiked a section of the Old Man of Storr in 40-degree weather, battling 50mph winds and persistent misty rain that blurred the line between the land and the sky. We eventually dried off at several distilleries, with the smoky, maritime spirit of Talisker being a particular highlight. This gallery is a visual diary of that trek across an ancient land, captured through a blend of digital and 35mm film. As you look through the lochs and legends—can you tell the difference?
